SMYRNA U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Marietta) tackled such sensitive topics as gun reform, abortion and rape during the Smyrna Area Council of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce breakfast which took place Thursday at the Smyrna Community Center.
Gingrey said he was open to considering certain gun control measures in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school massacre.
There are some problems, and maybe these huge magazines even for someone who says, look, I just use an AR-15 for target practice, but do you really need to be standing there shooting at a silhouette a shot a second or even quicker with that kind of weapon? For what purpose? Gingrey asked. I would be willing to listen to the possibility of the capacity of a magazine.
Gingrey, who took the time to praise Adventure Outdoors owner Jay Wallace as the gold standard for running a responsible gun retail business, said he is also open to revisions of the so-called gun show loophole.
What it is basically, if you go to a gun show and theres somebody out there in the parking lot, and theyre getting out of their car, and theyve got an A-15 on their shoulder or . John Q. Public wants to sell a handgun or whatever, then theres no background check, Gingrey said. You know, youre buying a used weapon from somebody and then basically no background check.
With the sophistication of smartphone technology, there should be an application that allows someone selling a gun to run a background check with relative ease, he said...

Gingrey: I think I will be primaried out in 2014
These PhonyCon Liberals just won’t stop
Just another GOP person willing to “compromise” in order to not be demonized. Which we all know is stupid because they are already demonized.
His district ends JUST short of where I live. I will still call him and make up an address.
These huge magazines make it rough on the shooter, Lets go with belt fed weapons.
...For what purpose? Gingrey asked. I would be willing to listen to the possibility of the capacity of a magazine...
hey a$$ clown when the police and military have high capacity magazines we should have them too, because 1 its our right and 2 we may need them to fight tyrants who’s mercenaries have them. even the playing field..no home team advantage.
now show me how many murderers actually used high capacity magazines as compared to hammers fists etc. should we limit people to one hammer or one arm? yeah thats the ticket make everyone cut off one arm...give me a reason not to allow them dont make me show you why I should have them...
he needs to get some response in large numbers right now...someone tell him for what purpose we should have them since he is too ignorant to already know.. let him listen till his ears start burning and smoke is coming out of them from information coming from constituents.
want a high capaity magazine ban, I want a high capacity ban on laws coming from Congress cut their days in half their pay in half and their tenure in half and restrict them to 10 laws per session....its obvious the more days and laws they pass the more damage they do so cut them off.

Gingrey gained notoriety when he ran afoul of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh in January 2009 when he criticized an editorial comment wherein Limbaugh accused the Republican leadership of appeasing popular President Barack Obama. Limbaugh stated on his radio program that “He (Obama) is obviously more frightened of me (Limbaugh) than he is of Mitch McConnell. He’s more frightened of me, than he is of say, John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.” Gingrey then came to the defense of the Republican leaders, saying that Limbaugh should “back off” and further commenting “I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach. I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people or your party.” Gingrey’s office was immediately flooded with complaints from Limbaugh’s followers, and he promptly arranged to appear as a guest on the Limbaugh show and apologized, saying, “Rush, thank you so much. I thank you for the opportunity, of course this is not exactly the way to I wanted to come on. Mainly, I want to express to you and all your listeners my very sincere regret for those comments I made yesterday to Politico. I clearly ended up putting my foot in my mouth with some of those comments, and I just wanted to tell you, Rush, and all the ‘conservative giants’ who help us so much to maintain our base and grow it and get back this majority that I regret those stupid comments.”[4
