Thanks for the perspective. There are parts of PA where unions were a religion. Those jobs left in the 70's and 80's, and so did the unions. I have a number of friends my age, just under 50, who grew up in very conservative union families. My friends are Republicans. Their fathers and uncles are Democrats and are not changing they way they vote. It doesn't make for good conversation at hunting camp.
There are definitely a considerable number of conservative union members in Michigan. Most of my neighbors are conservative union members. Some are pro union and some aren’t. I hated being in the union.
The union conservatives are a growing group and their leader (Terry Bowman) has testified against union political fundraising on capitol hill. He’s also pro right to work.
