In his youth Barry was an effective champion for the civil rights movement, then he was caught smoking crack in 1990. But he survived to become mayor again and survived again to become a council member. An HBO documentary about his life was aptly titled, The Nine Lives of Marion Barry.
We asked Barry if he remembered when he decided to become a Democrat.
He looked at me as if I was crazy.
“Sure I remember,” he said. “It’s when I registered to vote, back in Memphis, Tennessee a long time ago. I really got involved with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee when we supported the Freedom Democratic Party in Mississippi and went to the convention in ‘64 to try to unseat the all-white Democratic party.”
I pressed him a little more. If both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party were all-White, why decide to pick up and fight for a change in one and not the other?

Marion Barry dos not have 9 lives.
He is black in a black city. Blacks do not care about dope smoking getting head jobs in prison, corruption, or anything else as long as it is a black man doing it and other blacks getting a cut of it.Marion was smart enough to see that all of his cronies got a cut. A piece of the piue.
Obama is doing the same thing, He has filled his administration with blacks Homosexuals corrupt politicians all getting a slice of the pie.
Obama would be just as bulletproof as Marion Barry if the proportion of blacks in America were the same as the proportion of blacks in Washington DC. Unfortunately for Obama there aren’t enough of them so he has to go to the Hispanics and the Homo’s. Obama is close this year when he shouldnt even be in the running , thanks to those who close their eyes to corruption in order to get their share of it.
