this is why 18 year olds, except active duty military, should not be allowed to vote. they are too self-centered, short-sighted, and stupid.
Thankfully, they don’t actually vote in large numbers, although the press tries to make it look like they do. I’m starting to think military, veteran or property owner status should be required to vote (having skin in the game, as it were) but that’s just me.
Have the wet behind the crowd paid any attention to riots by students in Great Britain? That was the result of reduction in tuition subsidy because the government ran out of other people’s money. How about 55% unemployment rate for young people in Greece? How about the 25% official unemployment rate among working age adults in Spain.
The common thread in all above disasters? Too much spending.
When you are young and wet behind the years, you think there is a money tree in Washington DC.
As I tell mine, “You’re barely qualified to pick out pants as this age let alone make life-altering decisions.”
...and soooo ignorant not to realize that they will be paying the trillions of dollars in debt that idiot is getting us into.
I worked on the Daiily iowan at the U of Iowa as part of the J school sequence. This piece sounds like what we were publishing in 1970.
Another graduate of the Incredibly Crappy School of Writing.
mmmyeah, Mr "I've never been in the real world or made a tougher decision than latte or frappe" -- leave the deep thinking for us heavy-lifters whom WILL remove the disaster known as Baraka Hussein 0BowMao. You just stay on top of the choices of beer at the next kegger.
There is a good reason why the words “young” and “foolish” often appear in the same sentence.
This young lady needs her mouth washed out with soap; and a few other orifii as well, I suspect.
She lost me with this:
“Sarah Palin’s inclusion on the ticket four years ago locked in Obama’s win, and Ryan’s inclusion this time looks to be about the same.”
I’ getting seriously irritated with the revisionist history.
Before SP, Obama was already beating McCain. His major problem was that nothing about the man motivated the base to get their butts off the couch.
After the “SP for VP” announcement, intensity went up dramatically. McCain is MUCH better with her than he would’ve with another ‘old white guy’.
Getting the Indies mildly interested does no good if the base is yawning.
Romney has McCain’s problem. He had to choose a social conservative to stimulate his base.
I graduated from Ballard in Huxley in 1978, so most of my high school era jobs were in Ames and my sister and brother-in-law have degrees from ISU (he was the Army ROTC honor graduate, which gave him a regular Army commission vs. a reserve one). This dolt is from Ottumwa, as far as I can tell from some Google-ing.
Insipid and immature.
And the youngster forgot to mention, none of the changes suggested by Romney or Ryan will have any affect on Seniors 55 yo or older.
It's really very simple. Romney ran the numbers and discovered that the conservative voters this young expert dismisses as "going to vote for him anyway", weren't. That's it. Even a college journalist should understand it.
The truth is, Ryan's plan on Medicare and Medicaid has changed with bi-partisan support when agreement was made with Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) for a new reform plan. What we see here is the misrepresentation of the facts with fear politics that has become earmarks of the Democrats.
The so-called Baby Boomer generation won't even be touched by this plan to reform Medicare and Medicaid. Those who are 50 years and younger will have 15 years to decide which program will be best for them, upon reaching retirement age at 65. Those who are 50 years and older (including the Baby Boomers) will have the old, less responsive, system we suffer under today.
I would have gotten an “F” for an essay this poorly written even in 6th grade.

I agree that only property owners should pay property taxes, and it wouldn’t bother me a bit if voters had to prove they had a semblance of common sense. Won’t happen though
