It would appear that they were familiar enough to make him Lt. Gov in the first instance... what isn't clear to me is, what has changed in the interim that they no longer believe that?

Maybe they want to get a trophy candidate with the appealing Cruz life story on board? And are willing to sacrifice a great conservative, David Dewhurst, to accomplish that?
