He wasn't my first choice, but I think that he's the best we've got.
When was I convinced? When Juan Williams asked him that loaded, race-baiting question. 99 out of 100 pols would have squirmed like a puppy who just peed on the rug, and fallen all over themselved to apologize, or at least "Clarify what they meant" in a long-winded, rambling answer.
Newt didn't. He stood behind what he said with a simple, "Nope. I said it and I meant it." A politician with a spine? How refreshing.
So long as he doesn't screw it up - which is always a good bet, Republicans are always shooting themselves in the foot - I think that we saw the next president in that moment last night.
“A politician with a spine? How refreshing. So long as he doesn’t screw it up”
If Newt is the nominee, I pray that he’ll continue with this type of strong performance in debates with Hussein. Doubtful that there’ll even be debates with Hussein, since there’s no way that addlebrained, ignorant, jug-eared doofus will consent to even one. Also, if there is a debate, Hussein has in his pocket those who’ll be preparing the questions. It could get ugly.
Sadly, I think the fix is in for Romney by RNC, etc., and we’re already screwed when it comes to our candidate.
Yes, Newt is the best qualified to be president and the best debater. But if he’s the nominee he will have to demolish, not just defeat, 0bummer to overcome his (Newt’s) past demonization and the money, lies, and vote fraud that will be thrown against him.
Up to now I’ve thought better to win with Romney than lose with Newt. But Newt may catch fire, and not just with conservative Republicans.
