People spent a lot of time, and sent in a lot of money, for Cain. They invested a lot of effort into defending him against all the various charges and attacks, explaining how his lack of experience was a good thing, how experience was a bad thing, and how campaign mistakes were endearing rather than disqualifying.
It took a lot out of them, including some self-respect, but they would sacrifice anything for the “Pizza Man”, because he understood the fight and was in it to win it.
Except then he quit on them. I think they have some right to their anger and frustration.
