Unfortunately you are right about the older polls. Using RCP polling methodology in a dynamic situation like Iowa is not good practice. Just watch the polling and the trends.

The negative ads in Iowa are having their effect. Tonight's debate will be watched by a lot of Iowa folk. That will affect the Iowa polling as well.

Romney’s $$$$$ is kicking in
He has the $$$$$ to go with negative ads ( and they do work that is why they are used)

Newt can only get his message out through debates where he can combat the ads

The potential voters still don’t want Romney so negative ads aren’t needed against him —He is not rising Newt is dropping

Romney is splitting the anti Romney vote by taking Newt down
