Good point. That would a great lesson to the American Public on how that works cuz even myself a relative “above average political awareness person”, I would like to have a better idea of how that works.
Don’t ideal conditions have to do, with perhaps a large cast of candidates, a crowded field if you will - none of which particularly standing out.
Primary votes end up split, among various candidates? Some appealing to one group of voters. Others appealing to another. Enough candidates continue to compete, that eventually no numerical winner actually emerges first time through?
At which time, delegates are released from their original candidate?
I bet the GOP could set up a situation with this year’s field, on purpose. Actually.
