Vet, I was a hippy-dippy type just out of high school in the late 60's (I'm redfaced as I type this) living in Dallas. There was an underground newspaper then called Dallas Notes, and I remember a poem written in it about cockroaches (hey it worked for Kafka). It's the only thing I remember from that paper, and of that only the last line;

When man is gone and long forgotten, the cockroach will be chewin' something rotten.

It's been a lot of years, but thinking about what CVH said brought it to mind. I'll bet you know why.
