Texas Gov. Rick Perry is striking some red-meat notes.... What definition of the verb "strike" does the author have in mind here? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Unbridled immigration, both legal and illegal, is an existential threat to conservatism and ultimately to the Republic itself.

For most Democrats wide open immigration is a cynical path toward party dominance. That as a motive is bad enough, but a minority in that party sees untrammeled immigration as a way to carry out the mandate of The Frankfurt school, Cloward and Piven, and Saul Alinsky and that is to destroy America as a constitutional republic and open the way for socialism.

These radicals, of whom Obama himself is a leading exponent, regard America as the primary obstacle preventing the glorious onrush of world socialism. If they can destroy the sovereignty of this country, if they can render our military impotent, if they can overload the welfare system, if they populate the Republic with an indigestible mass of foreigners alien to the American culture, the English language, the Anglo-Saxon commitment to the rule of law rather than of men, capitalism, and to the concept of a constitution which limits the government to designated powers, they can finally get the chance they have sought since The Frankfurt School was created to open the way for socialism-the goals of The Frankfurt School have somewhat mellowed over the years and they no longer seek to impose Bolshevism, merely enlightened socialism.

As uncontrolled immigration undermines sovereignty it advances the cause of one world government especially if it undermines the one citadel of capitalism and democracy standing athwart socialism shouting "stop."(-With apologies to Bill Buckley.)

I am fully familiar with the reaction to the mass immigration into this country in the 1890s and around the turn of the last century and the resurrection of the KKK it ignited. So I am aware that this country in the past has in fact assimilated large doses of immigrants. This time I think it is different because we live in a global world and because we did not have a ruling elite in this country a century ago who wanted to do away with the Constitution and radically transform our society. I understand mine is an extreme point of view which would not get the time of day except on these boards but the more I watch this administration and the radicals in Congress who blindly support it, the more it becomes clear that there is more likely than not a very dark agenda prompting otherwise inexplicable policies.

The question for me is, what does a politician like Perry really believe? That becomes important because the next president, if a Republican, must be resolved to not just stop the inflow but bail out the overflow. There is an article posted today from The Hill which says that Perry has backed off from statements in his book. But the leftists at The Hill mean that he has moved to the left because the pronouncements in his book are too conservative to be appealing to the mushy middle. I can tolerate a degree of flip-flopping for this purpose but I am very suspicious of flip-flopping, such as Romney has exhibited, going the other way. This is because we are banking on what is in the man's heart to be the wellspring of his policies and we think that is a much more reliable predictor than campaign promises. No better example of this can be cited than Barak Obama himself.

It is much like the leftists who are not at all worried when Bill Clinton professed his commitment to Christianity and ostentatiously carried a big Bible,(the Protestant version of making broad one's phylacteries) they think of it as red meat for Bubba and excuse it as a cynical campaign contrivance necessary to fool the Bitter Clingers. Lying in the cause of socialism has never been a sin.

But immigration, because it is an existential threat, is one that we conservatives had really better get right. And we had better make damn sure our candidate will be staunch. I have just come off a heated thread in which I pointed out some of the deficiencies in Palin's potential candidacy but for the record, we have very little doubt about where her heart is and that is not an inconsequential consideration.

Of all the criticisms of Perry, this is the criticism that troubles me the most. I can get over his awe shucks, shit kicking manner of delivery. I am not concerned that he is just another Texas Governor after Governor Bush. I think there is enough leeway in the school inoculation issue to cut him some slack and I do not think it is terribly revealing anyway, but immigration is life and death to conservatism and, I believe, ultimately to our democracy.

We have to get a president who will not let us down on this issue.
