I’ve read that Texas, economically, is doing well. Is this due to Perry’s credit or just his good fortune?

That depends... did Rick Perry put all that oil under Texas? Is he responsible for the millions of conservatives electing Republican legislators? The Chinese economy is growing quickly too, but I’m not about to elect a fascist president, whether he’s Chinese or Texan.

God help me, I’d nominate McCain or Romney, first.

Dangus is right. Perry has several chinks in his armor over the course of his ten years as governor, but on economic can-do, he has been very aggressive! In fact, that would be his excuse for supporting the universally hated TransTexas Corridor.

The Gardasil thing he supported is much harder to explain, making the shots mandatory on little girls through the state as they enroll in school at nine years old. It seemed to me he was used as a pawn by the pharmaceutical company who produced the dang stuff in the shot and fell for their sales pitch. Thanks to our conservative legislature both these issues went down in flames. The Bush machine, for whatever shape it’s in, has never been supportive of Perry. That’s a plus in my book. RINOs won’t like him but will sure be willing to court him if Pawlenty or Romney don’t catch on fire before long.

Would he bring sanity and independence back to the USA fiscally speaking? You Betcha’!

"Rick Perry is a leader. While the nation lost half a million jobs in the last year, Texas gained 250,000 net new jobs. He improved the job climate in Texas by refusing to raise taxes in the face of the largest budget deficit in Texas history. He had the foresight to join legislators in saving for a rainy day. And he has consistently asked agency heads to cut their budgets even when surpluses were rolling in. My fellow Republicans, that’s consistent leadership. That's Rick Perry." Sarah Palin

Perry is personally involved in business in Texas. I know someone who works for the State who he personally contacted to get red tape straightened out for a medical tech start up company.

He takes Texas business expansion seriously. Texas is not hot on welfare; is hot on jobs and private industry. That is Perry - all the way - in Texas.

I don’t know if he’s a globalist... meaning if he would be as single minded to advance the US economy at home as he is for the Texas economy within the State. If he’s a globalist, he will serve the interests of foreign governments and multinational billionaires and would give a flying freak about US jobs. Hard to tell what he would do at a National level. He is not a socialist.
