Yes, it seems that Republican compromise is most always a move to the left. I wonder if the friendly Republicans wonder if the Dems are in the back room afterward, snickering among themselves about how they rolled the Republicans again.

They might have wised up after John Sununu made the backroom deal to break the "no new taxes" pledge that got his boss fired, but no.
