'She's becoming Al Sharpton, Alaska edition' read the headline for today's Politico story on some leading conservatives' growing disillusionment with Sarah Palin. The line was courtesy of Weekly Standard writer Matt Labash, who noted with apparent dismay Palin's "frequent appeals to victimhood and group grievance." Clearly conservatives consider the comparison an insult. But Reverend Al, for his part, says he refuses to be baited into getting offended. Instead, he tells us, "I would look at it with some curiosity, but its a funny circumstance to see them in. A lot of the establishment in the civil rights community didnt know what to make of me [either]." Now, Sharpton says, the "question is whether theyre trying to distance her and therefore remove themselves from somebody they have lost control over."

The GOP as a whole can find their behinds with both hands tied behind their backs so what makes them think they can control anything?

This kind of stuff really makes me wonder. Labash is someone that I’ve enjoyed reading in the past. I’ve appreciated his views on a variety of topics, and I’m certain that I’m not the only one. And now, he goes and says something like this. Why shoot yourself in the foot, Matt? Why make your own appeals to victimhood?
To: Noumenon
Sharpton proves one more time that it is possible for a man to eat entirely too much fried chicken.
