Well, Newt turned bad during the clinton years even before he left congress over his marital shennanigans.

Sarah has a good instinct for these guys. (Or gals, in the case of Lisa Murkowski.)

I remember trying to persuade fellow Freepers way back when that Newt was betraying everything he said he stood for, but many refused to believe it. I think when he stood up more recently and passionately argued for Dede Scozzafava against her Conservative opponent, most Freepers were finally convinced.

But the leftist media will continue to pretend that he is a conservative icon—kind of like McCain’s “Republican” daughter.

What??? Newt left Congress(right after winning reelection in his home congressional district)because the Republican caucus voted him out of the Speaker of the House position. He could have had just about any committee chair, but if he couldn't be Speaker, he wasn't going to do anything for our Country. I cringe every time I read or hear anything about him thinking about running for President.
