Rep. Michele Bachmann made history tonightnot just for being the first representative of the Tea Party to give a State of the Union response, but also for flatly refusing to look America in the eye.
Bachmann, who came equipped with charts and Iwo Jima photos, began her speech looking slightly off camera. As Bachmann spoke, viewersincluding the former MSNBC host Keith Olbermanntook to Twitter to ask a simple question: whats she looking at?
As Olbermann tweeted, Why isnt Rep. Bachmann LOOKING AT THE DAMNED CAMERA? He added later, Seriously, somebody at the Tea Party needs to run on the stage, grab her, and POINT TO WHERE THE CAMERA IS.
On CNN, Erick Erickson reported that Bachmann mistakenly focused on a camera recording the speech for the Tea Party Express, instead of the other camera capturing the speech live for the entire country. Jeepers.
Compared to President Obamas traditional SOTU speech, and Rep. Ryans response, the Bachmann speech was unique. It had charts and multimedia, and it had the weird vibe of listening to a person who seems to be talking to somebody else.
The experiencecarried exclusively on CNNleft media critics like Eric Deggans thinking one thing: SNL. I cannot wait to see what SNL dies with slightly creepy Michelle Bachmann response to #SOTU. Please let Kristen Wiig play her
Watch it here, from CNN:

The left have a special talent for shoving a stick up there collective butts and knit-picking the smallest inane detail and driving it home.
The MTV crowd will be asking the same question tommorow.
Didn’t Olberman promise to leave MSNBC? The quicker the better, please.
Seth Meyers already tweeted about MB looking over his left shoulder. Being SNL’s headwriter, I sense a plan.
That thread, with 30+ posts, was pulled by the Mods.
Bachman’s off-kilter eyes was goofy and looked amateurish. The Tea Party production team did her no favors, because while her message was solid, the eye thing distracted even my wife, who likes Bachman.
She was looking into the tea party camera not the CNN camera.
I posted the same thing in a thread that’s been deleted. Seth Myers owes me some royalties.
Too bad, because Michelle’s message was spot-on.
But blaming her for it is clearly wrong. I said in another thread, the guy who set this up should be fired.
Yep. Whoever produced that response failed, because unfortunately, style matters as much as substance matters, if not more.
Why in the world would they allow two cameras into the room for response? That’s just idiotic.
I haven’t seen any of these speeches yet but I can’t imagine Michelle Bachmann was anything at all like 0-bobble-head who looks like he’s watching a tennis match when he speaks.
I watched it and loved it. Bachmann’s speech was the best I have heard in years.
That shows what CNN is after in putting Bachman on
Two thoughts.
Why does Bachmann want to be on TV like this?
Who the Hell is Keith Olbermann?
Inexcusable.
How could the people who organized this thing have screwed up something this simple?
/face palm
If this is the best attack that they can come up with ... that she did not look in the direction that they wanted .... man, are they weak.
The cue is in. Destroy her like they have tried to do with Sarah. Do have a great upcoming day....time for me to hit the rack.
Look at the incompetent boob that is President now? He only was elected because he reads other people’s words fluently, has a nice smile, and was the “right” kind of minority.
There has not been a less-accomplished man to ever sit in the White House, and it’s all because of TV.
I saw some of it, not the whole thing, but I didn’t notice anything like that. She seemed to be looking at the camera to me.
