Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is delivering the official rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union next week. But, thanks to technology and the tea party movement, it won't be the only Republican response. In concert with Tea Party Express, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is delivering her own post-speech message.
Ryan's response will air on national television after Obama's speech; Bachmann's will be streamed on the Tea Party Express Web site. The news was announced in a fund-raising email. Bachmann founded a Tea Party Caucus in Congress, and Tea Party Express named her a "hero" in the 2010 election.
Founded by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, Tea Party Express is more closely aligned with the Republican establishment than some other conservative activist organizations.
As the Fix reported a few weeks ago, Bachmann has been weighing a presidential bid.
It's hard to see where Bachmann sees herself fitting into the GOP presidential field -- particularly if Sarah Palin runs....

great!!!!!!!
This is the one I will be waiting to hear
and comparing it to the smarmy politics as usual of the GOP
Bachmann is tougher than Ryan, hers will be better.
I’ll bet the good old boys club at the GOP is not amused. Good.
The more irons in the fire, the better the pickings later.
She is one of my faves. Michelle, DeMint and Pence are tops along with Ken Cucinelli in VA. Also like Ryan, Allan West and Suzanne Martinez (gov) in NM.
I like Ryan - - he’s mostly pretty solid.
I hope Michelle is respectful and does her thing later. In any event, I am looking forward to both responses, as I will not be viewing the Ubama lie-a-thon. I just can’t stand that punk.
I wish she would do the real address or Palin they would get more viewers. Dick Army did not start tea party express he started something else.
Here's what I wrote about Ryan's speech in a post earlier today:
Here's an idea, since we are so interested in joining hands at the State of the Union-- The response to the SOTU is always hollow, by someone standing alone delivering a dry, tepid speech. No one listens, and if they do, it always pales in comparison to a President speaking to a packed assembly in the House chamber.
How about instead, we do this:
In introducing the President, the Speaker of the House speaks for a minute about the history of the SOTU. How it is in the Constitution, and started out as a simple message delivered to Congress. He can mention how GW's SOTU was 3 paragraphs, that Presidents started delivering them personally in (whatever year it was) and that with the advent of nationally broadcast addresses, they have become major annual events. "And with that, we give you President Barack Obama, to deliver his address as to the State of the Union".
Then, at the end of the SOTU, the Speaker turns to the gallery and says, "Thank you very much, Mr. President, for delivering the SOTU. Now, for a commentary by the House of Representatives regarding the President's comments, the chair recognizes Congressman Paul Ryan".
Then, in front of that same packed chamber, Ryan gives his address.
I know, I know, I'm dreaming. What I would do is not what Boehner would do. He will be shaking Obama's hand and glad-handing after the speech. But Ryan ought to at least find a way to deliver his address to an audience. Maybe he skips the SOTU and delivers his speech to an arena in his home district or something like that. The arena could have a jumbotron where they have watched the SOTU first. We could have live video of the attendees booing Obama. Then cut to Ryan.
That is something that I think could be done, even by Boehner.
I still think Joe Wilson’s two word rebuttal from last year would suffice.
Love it! Bring it on!
What STUPIDITY!!
Even the editors didn't notice.
Wasn't the actual founder of the Tea Party Express named Sal Russo?
HOW can such drivel come from the Wapo??????? How can they be so ignorant, yet claim to be the political paper of note?????????
You forgot.
You forget the part about where Boehner is dabbing away the tears streaming down his face because HE is part of An.Historical.Moment.
No further comment.
