Susan Collins knows nothing of cranking up an electorate. She is as soporific as watching a laundromat dryer that is set to the air mode. She couldn't give a stem-winder in a burning barn. Her idea of governing is going along to get along. Groomed by Senator William Cohen, her greatest attributes are that she is not Chellie Pingree or Tom Allen. She would make an outstanding lunch lady at the local grammar school. In a standoff, Sarah Palin would have Collins' liver for lunch as Collins passed the salt and pepper.

My 'ear-to-the-ground' is that Snowe is not looking to run again. She is said to be eyeballing a suitable replacement. You would be hard pressed to find a cagier politician than Olympia Snowe. She could take a nosedive into the latrine and emerge with a diamond clenched between her teeth. She is; without a doubt, a true believer. That is not to say that what she believes has any more merit than Collins' pablum, no. If it came down to the last carrot though, Snowe would slice your throat while she looked you in the eye and said, "I really do wish you all the best in your future endeavors".

The Tea Party is enthusiastic and vital in Down-east Maine. Collins will continue to hold her nose and Snowe will try to get mileage from the movement if she senses an opportunity (she won't). Our major strength here is that it is 1958, Eisenhower is President, and Leave It To Beaver is on tomorrow night at 7:30 on ABC to be followed by Zorro and The Real McCoys. The transplants, homos, and granolas don't get that and they stand out like a 15 year old boy watching cheerleader practice, or Sarah Palin. I'm just sayin...
