I like him (Ford) too. About this writer - if he really thought Sara was a loser he would be supporting her all the way. Maybe he thinks his readers aren’t smart enough to figure that out.

Yeah, but the risk was that Ford would gain power, and then he'd serve in a manner similar to his family history, not his own past history. And that his gaining power would enable his corrupt family to gain power.

(See "The Godfather", and put Harold Ford Jr. into Michael Corleone's role....)

I will say he always seemed reasonable, for a Dem. But that's for a Dem.

And I'll also say that the "Playboy Party at the Superbowl" slam against him when he ran for Senate was just stupid politics. It wasn't racist, but it was definitely "lowest common denominator" mudslinging. A single man going to a party where there are guaranteed beautiful women - who'd have thunk it?!?

Ford would have been a much better 1st black POTUS. For beginners, he’s an American!
