Historically we are coming close to the end of free and fair elections. Eventually a way will be found to stop elections and keep an administration in power. "Bill" Clinton caused the floating of a trial balloon regarding the amending of the Constitution so he could stay in office. Remember the articles suggesting that course of action?

I can see this current regime suspending elections given the right conditions; i.e. a well placed riot or two brought about by right wing extremism, an attempted assassination etc.
