JUDY WOODRUFF: And for more on the primaries and the historical results in South Carolina, we're joined by Amy Walter, editor in chief of The Hotline, "National Journal"'s political daily, and Adolphus Belk Jr. He's a professor of political science and African-American studies at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He joins us now from Charlotte, North Carolina...

Not the people I'd ask to find insight on conservative political dynamics...which makes sense, I guess, because I wouldn't go to PBS either.

There is one reason PBS pushes Romney.
He is a loser. A big loser. And the MSM cannot wait.

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

Of course. Romney’s ties to SC are all about Jim DeMint. He knows he needs SC to get the RNC nod so he’s putting his eggs in SC’s basket, which is why he headlined a fundraiser for DeMint in October 2009 and then endorsed Haley.
