I came across these interesting thoughts, from a pro life person, about Chris Gibson (and Scott Murphy) on abortion:

“Todd says:

I am pro-life, and I have decided to support Chris Gibson for senate with some hesitation (because he supports first trimester abortions). My reasons for supporting Gibson include the following:

1) Scott Murphy is as pro-abortion as they come, and Gibson will be a major improvement. Gibson opposes federal funding for abortion (i.e., the use of my tax dollars to subsidize murder). Gibson also correctly views that abortion is a state issue and not a federal one. Gibson supports conscience clauses that prevent pro-life citizens from losing their jobs because of their religious beliefs. Furthermore, he protects parental rights by supporting parental notification laws before a minor can obtain an abortion.

2) I strongly agree with Gibson on the need for limited government and deficit reduction. The growth of government is a threat to liberty, and socialized medicine threatens to undermine decades of progress for the pro-life movement.

3) I share pro-life concerns that the Republican Party is softening its stand for life. However, the solution is for pro-life citizens to continue growing popular opinion against abortion at the grass roots level. Public opinion is where the battle lies, and we have made much progress in the last thirty years. If we continue winning that battle, both political parties will ultimately follow.

The pro-life cause has made substantial progress since Roe v Wade, but the liberal dominance in Washington threatens to undo much of this progress. Gibson may not be the perfect pro-life candidate, but Murphy will do far more harm to the cause of life. It is a mistake for pro-life voters to let the perfection become the enemy of the good.”
