“Last week, a story broke about a Yorktown (and D.C.) native named Tom DeChiaro “mulling” a run against Democrat Nan Hall in New York’s 19th Congressional District. The North County News quoted DeChiaro taking an openly pro-life stance.

DeChiaro, who is Catholic, said his beliefs will guide him when it comes to making decisions about policy.

“If you are a candidate who believes in the sanctity of life, you have to vote based on your belief, or you have no integrity. When it comes to core values, you can’t have a give and take.”

Sounds like the pro-lifers are ready to put up a fight in #19.
Cavere & DeChiaro is where I’m leanin’

Dr. Nan Hayworth GOP-NY19. Was the latest “interesting” candidate on the scene last SEPT. The NRCC seems to think she cannot handle outreach to the grassroots in the party. She is the reason for all the dust-up.

Her hubby is OB/GYN and is director of a big medical practice. The question seems to be “do they really perform abortions” in the building where he manages this practice? The unsubstantiated allegations apparently have some basis in reality. Maybe. Probably.

Well I certainly won’t be supporting Nan Hayworth. She needs to join the Party of Death, it looks like.

We live in Warren County and have suffered all these many years from RINO’s on Steroids..typical candidates like Tedisco and Dan Stec in Queensbury..The Colonel will be a breath of fresh air.. a true conservative. We worked for Doug Hoffman last year even though we couldn’t vote in his district but we made calls for him, etc. Now we can focus on someone here in our own NY-20th!

I came across these interesting thoughts, from a pro life person, about Chris Gibson (and Scott Murphy) on abortion:

“Todd says:
April 19, 2010 at 4:01 am
I am pro-life, and I have decided to support Chris Gibson for senate with some hesitation (because he supports first trimester abortions). My reasons for supporting Gibson include the following:

1) Scott Murphy is as pro-abortion as they come, and Gibson will be a major improvement. Gibson opposes federal funding for abortion (i.e., the use of my tax dollars to subsidize murder). Gibson also correctly views that abortion is a state issue and not a federal one. Gibson supports conscience clauses that prevent pro-life citizens from losing their jobs because of their religious beliefs. Furthermore, he protects parental rights by supporting parental notification laws before a minor can obtain an abortion.

2) I strongly agree with Gibson on the need for limited government and deficit reduction. The growth of government is a threat to liberty, and socialized medicine threatens to undermine decades of progress for the pro-life movement.

3) I share pro-life concerns that the Republican Party is softening its stand for life. However, the solution is for pro-life citizens to continue growing popular opinion against abortion at the grass roots level. Public opinion is where the battle lies, and we have made much progress in the last thirty years. If we continue winning that battle, both political parties will ultimately follow.

The pro-life cause has made substantial progress since Roe v Wade, but the liberal dominance in Washington threatens to undo much of this progress. Gibson may not be the perfect pro-life candidate, but Murphy will do far more harm to the cause of life. It is a mistake for pro-life voters to let the perfection become the enemy of the good.”
