A reference to the special olympics is pretty clearly referencing disabled kids.

Okaay.

Comparing one to the athletic games that retarded people play is a more clear reference to disable people than comparing one directly to the condition that retarded people suffer??

LOL, got it.

(Yes, we disagree)

We don’t call them “retarded”, we call them “disabled”.

And the special olympics is for disabled people, not just for mentally challenged people.

And yes, saying “I’m so bad at bowling, I aught to play in the special olympics” is a much more obvious affront to those who play in the special olympics than a use of a slang term that has become through political correctness a “derogatory term”.

It is clear that Rahm didn’t mean to denigrate retarded people by comparing them to senators. It is clear that Obama was under the mistaken impression that he would be able to beat the people who compete in the special olympics, because he has no respect for their abilities.

IN other words, Obama was in fact showing ignorance and malice. He was like Eric Cartman, pretending to be “disabled” so he could win the special olympics, only to lose ever single event because hte real special olympians are actually very very good at what they do, and us average abled people wouldn’t have a chance of beating them.

So Obama, looking at his bad bowling score, and saying that it was like a special olympics performance, was denigrating special olympians. That is so obvious that I wouldn’t ever have expected anybody to complain about it — and they didn’t.

On the other hand, it is clear that Rahm was just trying trash-talk his own party’s senators, and didn’t think twice about actual disabled people. There is no rational interpretation of his words that would suggest he was making fun of down syndrome children. He SHOULD apologize for what he said, because it is crass and childish, but not because he was making fun of retarded people by calling senators retarded.

That’s like saying that if you call someone a bastard, you are making fun of kids whose parents aren’t married.

This isn’t about Sarah Palin, it’s about conservatives falling over each other to jump on the PC bandwagon. I can’t help that Sarah is part of it, but only a syncophant would hold their tongue simply because they support the candidate making a foolish complaint.
