This is why Republicans lose elections:
Crabill is trying to position herself as a conservative in the 99th House of Delegates district of Virginia, against a popular Democrat incumbant. But at the Northern Neck Republican website, the visitor is presented with Crabill at a Yacht & Country Club with elitist-looking old white women. At a formal tea party. Not the populist, conservative mass movement tea party rallies, but an elitist tea party of rich old white women.
Yes, old white people should be kicked to curb. How dare a candidate appear in public with old white people.
That’s just silly.
1) I didn’t get the impression there was anything “elitist” about these pictures. It looked like Crabill with two old ladies. So what?
2) Conservatives should vote ideology, not appearances.
Exactly. Can't Crabill get with the program? One of them needed to be a minority, the other a lesbian in a wheelchair.
You mean like dems inhabit elitist white LEFTIST parties with elitist white LEFTIST women. Please. Republicans lose elections far too often because they are liberals masquerading as conservatives. Nobody cares who this candidate spends his time with on a given afternoon if he IS and HAS BEEN a conservative. It’s the Scozzafava’s who irritate republican voters. She has the full support of the republican party big-wigs, the money necessary to run a campaign and a legacy of republican representation in the district. But she is losing to both a democrat and an “independent” because she is to the far left of a RINO, not because she met with a group of rich supporters.

Now that we’re all apparently blue-collar and Salt of the Earth people because of the tea parties (or whatever), Republicans care about whether they’re seen in the vicinity of yachts? This is stupid. I don’t mind being called an elitist. I WANT to be an elitist. So long as I’m right.
The modern-day Democrat party has become the party of the fat cats and dependent, stupid, ignorant poor.
The comment is about the party’s website, not the event. And the local party’s portrayal of the candidate via its use of imagery, as the first thing that greets the visitor to the website.
Is this the imagery and desciption you’d use?
Yes, people should vote ideology, not appearances--but appearances matter. If the GOP looks like the party of only the wealthy elderly, it will limit its growth outside of that demographic.

I concur. However, if you survey the general public as to who they think is the party of "the rich," probably 75% would say it's the Republican Party. If the GOP is to reclaim the middle-class, it must shed that image.
It’s a fine thing for the Republican candidate to visit the yacht and country club and rich old white ladies. But the question is, when the party presents imagery of its candidate, what does it choose for top of the fold, front page, opening web page, first paragraph, and the 30 seconds of the radio commercial?
I submit it isn’t “yachts” and “country clubs” and rich old white ladies.
(Points made here that Dems are the true elitists, phonies, etc., are well-taken.)
My comment was to refute the notion that there is anything wrong with being associated with a tea party at a yacht club.
Agreed. In and of itself.....

I've no problem with you on that. However, if GOP candidates take that approach, you'd better get ready for many more years of DemonRat control.
If that happens, you won't be an elitist any more--after the Rats are done confiscating your wealth.
Agreed. I’ve no problem with GOP candidates holding events at high-end venues, but they should do it the DemonRat way: no press and no photos allowed. The GOP photo-ops should be of the candidate shaking hands outside a factory, not outside the country club.
“However, if GOP candidates take that approach, you’d better get ready for many more years of DemonRat control.”
Republicans can never hope to out-pander the Democrats. It’s a losing game, because Democrats actually believe in it. That’s their bread and butter.
You can say we shouldn’t confirm people’s irrational preconceived notions, and I might agree that it’d be a good idea not to wear tophats, tailcoats, and smoke giant cigars. But unless I’m crazy, 99% of the electorate would have absolutely no reaction to the pictures above. That is, unless they had an axe to grind. In and of themselves, they are neutral.
