I think you need to reread your history - Britian and France created a defense alliance with Poland, not the US. At the end of hostilities neither Britian or France was in any condition to make good on their promise to Poland. The US never had a formal alliance with Poland until recently. At the end of WWII, no one in the US was willing to fight the Soviet Union for eastern Europe. Remember, at the time (April 1945) we still had to finish Japan.

My point was that we IGNORED the impending disaster that about to sweep over Poland. The US was not part of a defence alliance, but it was not hard to see that an army on horseback was no match for tanks.
Many Americans, even at the end of WWII, realized that the Allies were conceding way too much to the Russians.
