Somebody needs to sell the energy facts more effectively.
I don't think it is an issue of selling. We are dealing with an extremely ignorant American Idol generation. Just ask people where electricity comes from. They most likely will answer the "light switch". This is as far as most people can think. They can't take it back to the power plant. They can't take it back from plant to energy mining or drilling. They will never take it back even further to the technology that extracts the energy. Even fewer will understand the economic system from production to delivery. They have no clue.
One thing they do understand is cost. This is why the government must be removed almost completely from the energy system. Capitalism will answer to cost.
Americans are very good a placing blame. Instead of selling the need for fossil fuels let us instead sell the blame. If the costs are high then blame the government. If there are shortages blame the government. Further, sell the fact that more government will not reverse the effects of government. Sell the fact that government is bad.

It is almost 100 percent an issue of sales. The other side had effectively sold more expensive energy billed as not xpensive energy. And if one side says, "hey, that's more expensive energy," they are painted as regressive meanies who want to destroy the planet.
Recognize the model for what it is. It's a Twitter world, and we're mailing letters.
