“The price of gasoline has now fallen in our state. Last June it was about $4.60. If you were to put on a gasoline tax of about 18 cents, so we’d still be well under two dollars a gallon,” Campbell said.

The problem Mr Campbell is that once the people allow the Government to institute a tax it rarely of ever gets lowered or taken off. So when the cost of gas goes up the people will get a double shafting.
Also you would be taxing people for working during a tough economy The vast majority of working Americans drive to their jobs. 10’s of thousands of then use their vehicles in some aspect of their job or business for those tha are small business owners.

It's safe to say Tom Campbell, the former congressman exploring a run for governor in 2010, is not your typical Republican. . . .

Au contraire, ami, he is the quintessential Republican of late. Fake; a RINO; a moonbat in conservative clothing. Reducing spending is not in his universe.

Good luck with his "exploration" of a run for governor.

No thank you, idiot!

This time he means temporary.

Of course, payroll withholding for federal income tax was also meant to be 'temporary'. It was enacted in WWII...

We also used to tar and feather scoundrels.

If Campbell is only tarred, that too will be well less than what used to be done and he should be very happy.

This guy needs to be pounded down for being a massive idiot.

How come when gas was 4.60 this a$$hole was not out there pushing a bill to REDUCE gas taxes?

When it goes back over $2 a gallon, you stupid putz politician, will your bill automatically DROP the 18 cent hike?

What a massive, massive moron.

Besides which, it’s a lot of effort plucking enough chickens for feathers. Low-grade tar is cheap, and should get the point across by itself.

Has there ever been a temporary tax?

Why yes... there was the temporary "luxury tax" on telephones that went into effect in 1898 to fund the Spanish American War efforts... that temporary tax only lasted until 2006. So, you see, it was temporary - 108 years.

So there is hope that Campbell's tax will end in our grandchildren's time instead of our great-grandchildren's time.

It's safe to say Tom Campbell, the former congressman exploring a run for governor in 2010, is not your typical Republican Democrat.

Probably more accurate my way.
