The campaign this year is eerily reminiscent of the election a few years back. Then, too, we had a Republican president who was unpopular and the media was favoring a relatively unknown Democrat. He was a very smart, articulate man who was a good campaigner. He sounded good and persuasive. He was friendly, likeable and really a decent man. He was a liberal with kind of a naive world view. He had no experience in Washington. The press did everything they could to promote his election. But once he was elected, it wasnt too long until the country was sorry they had chosen Jimmy Carter. The interest rate went over 12% and Mr. Carter had no idea how to get our hostages released from Iran. He seemed overwhelmed by the complexities of being president. A record of accomplishing things is nice - it proves to Americans that this guy knows how to get things done. Unfortunately, Obama, like Carter, has precious little experience doing anything except campaigning - he is very experienced at running for office!
