Then how come Obama who is for it is ahead
Do I really have to answer this? A $700 billion boondogle that GREATLY increases the power of central bankers. Liberals love it, conservatives hate it.
But really what's happened is that McCain managed to not just be unpopular but seemingly ineffective as well. He lists as his accomplishment "I got 40+ Republicans to vote for an unpopular bill, but it did not pass". Way to go, dude. Really worth suspending your campaign for that one.
The saddest part of all is he could have proposed an economic recovery bill that didn't centralise power and that didn't need $700 of new debt and would have been in far better shape whether or not it actually passed.
