The GOP party is dead.
IMHO, its a real close call. Lets say for the time being the GOP is on full life support. Hanging on, clinging to its conservative roots. This election will be a decision on what direction Republicans want to go for the next 20 years. An obvious choice between more social liberalism we've seen creeping into GOP domestic policy for the last seven years, or a return to policies that promote constitutional conservatism.
The GOP can do better than nominating a liberal rino or centrist moderate, who will do nothing to help advance the conservative cause.
