Tommy Thompson was something of a riot to watch. The poor sucker accepted an invitation to speak at the Jewish Religious Action Center last April, and proceeded to make an absolute idiot of himself. Why he thought that talking to a crowd of liberal RAC Jewish Americans would be helpful to his campaign is one indicator of how bright he is. RAC members are going to vote lockstep Democratic come hell or high water anyway, and then his comments certainly couldn't persuade any doubters:

"I'm in the private sector and for the first time in my life I'm earning money. You know that's sort of part of the Jewish tradition and I do not find anything wrong with that."

" I just want to clarify something because I didn't in any means want to infer or imply anything about Jews and finances and things. What I was referring to ladies and gentlemen is the accomplishments of the Jewish religion. You've been outstanding business people and I compliment you for that." And then he went on about his 'Jewish friends', and further ruffled his audience.

Thompson has made a variety of lesser comments, including referring to the Anti Defamation League as the fringe Jewish Defense League, Israel Bonds as "Jewish Bonds", and he has also reportedly referred to Winston Churchill as being the first leader of Israel.

The former governor of Wisconsin displays all the sensitivity and tact of the late Idi Amin, and he hasn't got the first clue.
