I am hopeful about this race. Hopefully, the voters will be tiring of the state's DemocRAT legislature by 2008.

Well I hope COGOP can find a candidate they can agree about to avoid yet another debilitating primary. I don't know much about McInnis and his "ethical history". Are they credible enough for a challenger to cite them as concerns for him being electable or are they just little known Democratic mudslinging talking points?
We really are going to need a perfect campaign to hold this seat, the Democrats are really making a serious challenge with Udall, I just hope the GOP can get their act together, but based on recent developments in Colorado, I have to say Im skeptical.

As far as I know, they are the latter. McInnis was very popular in his district when he represented it.

Republicans need to function as a team. If they don't, '08 will be ugly in Colorado and many other states.

Even if Shaffer runs, he's a class act and would never resort to the dirty tricks Holtzman pulled on Beauprez.
Even though both were Congressmen, McInnis is much better known and my guess is would beat Shaffer handily.
It still ticks me off, though, that McInnis refused to run when he could have held Campbell's Senate seat for us.

I think that McInnis is better known only because he was a congressman more recently than Bob. Shaffer will make up that name recognition in a real hurry. The question that I have is who is going to run for Udall's 2nd district seat while he runs for the Senate?

What I've heard is Joan Fitzgerald, state Senate President is running and Mr. 527 mega-bucks, Jared Polis is also interested. It could be a very bloody primary, if so.

Thanks for the info. I'll do some research.

Scott McInnis could have won the governor job too.

Not a worry during his 20 years in various state offices.
I don't know much about McInnis and his "ethical history".

I still think Colorado is basically a red state, but we've been very poorly served by our leadership the last decade.
To: colorado tanker; Morgan in Denver
Pete Coors ran a terrible race.
He apparently never met with nor did any campaign photo-ops with Campbell.
Owens was awful. We both know the list.
Beauprez should have stayed as a congressman...
We are being invaded by many lefties from Mexico, California, etc... which is hurting us.
The DUmmies in the state houses with their union bill may help us if we do not shoot ourselves in the foot again.

Beauprez should have stayed as a congressman... True, in hindsight. Who knew two years ago Holtzman would run attack ads against a fellow Republican worse than what the Dems usually run?? Or that after a solid performance in 2004, 2006 would be such a bad year across the board.
In Colorado, we really need to figure out how to raise enough 527 money to counter what a few super-rich Dems have been doing to us.
To: colorado tanker
Not hindsight with Beauprez .
Holtzman would not listen either.
Sad for us and for Colorado.
The outside campaign money is really hurting us.
Scott would be good but he does not like DC for many reasons; thus he likely will not want to travel back as our senator.

I heard Scott's typical schedule while a Congressman was long weekends at home in Colorado.
To: colorado tanker
Scott never wanted to live in DC.
He slept in his office, got up early to exercise, then shower in the house gym and go to work.
He would work late, speak on the floor thru c-span, then crash in the office...
He tried to be back in his district and with his family as much as possible.
