Actually, having played with this thing for a couple of elections while in Harris County, I can actually write out her name in under two minutes. Maybe it's a new world record or something. :P
When you don't vote straight party (as I never would and like most people do) and have to actually go through the usual Harris County (or Texas) ballot, you end up spending at least 30-45 minutes anywho, considering the amount of judges (usually about 30-40, most uncontested GOP) and the string of ballot propositions and state constitutional amendments to go through.
Just as an FYI, in 2002, I had to vote in 68 contests and about 55 contests in 2000.
But then again, I'm not one of those voters who is getting senile (not quite yet) and I actually like being in the voting booth for that long annoying the precinct chairs and purposely did the same thing in Maryland in 2004, even though there the ballot was only 1/3rd as long.
The difficulty of write in candidates is that voters usually forget who is running specifically or how to spell their name. If they spell it incorrectly, their votes don't count.
There is an easy way to fix this:
The GOP needs to make a lot of stickers with the candidate's named spelled on them. Than they need to be handing them out from now until the election and make sure they hand one to every voter that enters every polling booth on election day.
