Monday Pingage.
201 Days...
Potts has got to be out of his mind.......increase the gasoline tax????? with the price of gasoline as high as it is now, what is wrong with that man?
And I won't even get into the regressivity of gas taxes, particularly for those who live in rural areas where there is no choice for transportation other than driving.
(I can't believe I am about to say this, but) kaine does make a good point about not diverting funds out of the transportation trust fund.
I like Kilgore's idea of regional transportation authorities, but after the defeats of tax referenda in both NoVA and hampton Roads, I wonder just how well that would work if it is only to be left up to the voters to approve any tax/fee/rate increases.
I don't think I'm on your VA ping list - please add me.
Any word on Mud?
Added you to the list.
Haven't talked to Mud in a couple of weeks.
He's just following in Chuck Robb's footsteps. Chuckie-boy proposed the same thing on a national level at a similar time when gas prices were going up. I remember thinking he was an absolute idiot. Now, he's out of a job. :)
I attended the Virginia Boys' State Closing Ceremonies this weekend held at Liberty University in Lynchburg. If anyone's still unfamiliar with Boys' State run by the American Legion, look into it and see if it's something your family would like to participate in. It's God, Country, and public policy/government -- tailor made for FReeper families.
I heard Mark Warner gave a good talk during the week explaining the governor's role in the Commonwealth as did Jerry Kilgore representing the Attorney General's office. Thankfully, Kaine ranked low on the well-received meter.
I'm familiar with Boys State. I was nominated to go when I was in high school. But I wimped out (long story). I did, however, go to Model General Assembly with the Hi-Y club.
I'm surprised they had Kilgore speak in the AG role. Or did they just have both candidates and that's what he spoke on?
I asked about that, too. Kaine never resigned his Lt. Governor position to run for governor like Jerry Kilgore did, correct? If that's so, I think the America Legion wanted to let both men speak since it's an election year and it wouldn't be right to only have Kaine speak. I was told the acting attorney general did not address the group, only Kilgore.
That's probably it. And it wouldn't have been a wise move for Kaine to whine about that.
Heh heh heh...
Corin got a ~MAJOR~ nasty look this morning from a granola type womyn in a Volvo with a Tim Kaine sticker.
It was obvious she'd read my "Kaine is Not Able" sticker.
*snort*
LOL! I gotta get my Kilgore sticker on the ol' Coopmobile.

WASHINGTON -- Sen. George Allen, who recently visited the presidential proving grounds of New Hampshire, will soon head to the state that in recent elections has boasted the first GOP presidential primary in the South.
when I was up in Delaware the week before last someone actually asked me why would anyone want to kill Al Gore? It actually took me a few beats to even understand the question, until I realized he was looking at my Kilgore for Governor sticker.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..........neither my husband and I were thinking last night when he went out to get cigarettes - he only picked up 2 packs........
Your link diddn't work - the tax story is here
What really bugs em about cigarette and alchol taxes, (which we note were not increased even though alcohol use adds health care costs jsut as being claimed as justification for the cig tax)is that we are also paying state sales tax on top of it as the excise taxes are included in the retail price.
