According to PoliticsPA.com, Greenwood was giving the "moderate" Conti a tour of the Capitol, but Mike Fitzpatrick is still the frontrunner to be annointed by Bucks County Chairman Harry Fawkes. Is Fitzpatrick actually conservative? If so, I hope he gets picked, although if Greenwood has any say on the matter he'll make sure they pick a RINO. Here's what PoliticsPA.com wrote about the possible replacements, and how at least one RAT is trying to weasel his way into the ballot:

Fawkes waiting for Greenwood to make it official

Harry Fawkes, chairman of the Bucks Country Republicans, said Tuesday he was waiting for U.S. Rep. Jim Greenwood to officially announce his resignation before recruiting another candidate.

Coincidentally, State Sen. Joe Conti, mentioned as a contender for the vacancy, spent the day in Washington, D.C. with Greenwood, attending a fundraiser and making rounds on the Hill where, Conti said, Republican lawmakers including House Speaker Dennis Hastert wished Greenwood well and told him he would be missed.

Conti, Sen. Tommy Tomlinson and Bucks County Commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick are the big three names circulating, but Fawkes said he has had more than 30 people call him saying they’re interested and he’s not taking any steps until Greenwood makes an official announcement.

Fawkes said his first choice would be Fitzpatrick, but with so much uncertainty and a hurried race before him, Fitzpatrick might not want to run.

Conti praised Fawkes and the strength of the county committee, adding that he and the other two men mentioned thus far are good friends who will join Fawkes in studying the district’s demographics and trends to ensure they select a winner.

“We respect their endorsement, we seek their endorsement and quite candidly we don’t run without it,” Conti said. “I think the collective wisdom of the committee will hold who the candidate’s going to be.”

Conti said several party leaders have asked him to consider a run, and he thinks his spot on the spectrum makes him an ideal candidate in many ways.

Voters from the district, Bucks County, and parts of Montgomery County and Philadelphia, vote moderate, giving a pro-choice Republican like Conti an advantage, he said.

“It should be a Republican seat, but it is not a lock,” he said. “Some of the views I bring would actually cut into the Democratic support.”

One name not mentioned as a potential candidate is that of Tom Lingenfelter, a former Republican who switched parties and lost to Democratic nominee Ginny Schrader.

Lingenfelter said he continues to think he’s the perfect candidate for the district, especially in the wake of Greenwood’s apparent departure, but he has run out of options, especially considering his icy relationship with Fawkes.

Regardless of the now open seat status Democrats are enjoying, Lingenfelter said he still doesn’t think Schrader can beat any of the three potential candidates named thus far, or what Lingenfelter called “Harry Fawkes’s loyal minions.”

“I don’t think Ginny Schrader has shown at this point she can compete against anyone with clout,” he said. “The machine is too powerful.”

Specifically, Lingenfelter said, Fitzpatrick is a candidate Republicans never sweat, his county commission races are a walk, and he would win in a cinch over Schrader.

“They don’t even worry about him because they know he can’t lose,” he said.

Schrader insists that she’s ready for a fight and remaining on the ticket.

Whom she runs against though will remain a mystery until Fawkes is ready to anoint a successor, which he said, he’ll have to do quickly once Greenwood officially ends his re-election bid.

My only fear right now is that Greenwood will change his mind about retiring once he sees that the GOP won't nominate a RINO to replace him.

Other threads regarding Greenwood's probable retirement:

Hopefully the 'Rats won't resurrect the extra-chromosomer Petey Kostmeyer, Greenwood's nutty predecessor (who was so far to the left to make Greenwood look like Jesse Helms) as a potential candidate if the current candidate stands down. Go Fitzpatrick !

To: everyone

Greenwood is a hard-line social liberal. The GOP will be better off without him.

"He has received a cushy, well paying, do nothing job."

You've just described his current job as a RINO congressman.

So cautious optimism right now. This could turn out very well for us, and it seems the worst case may even be better than status quo.

Good to see him willing to step up and serve. BTW, which branch of the military was he willing to step up and serve in as a young man?

Even if they pick a moderate he'd be better than Greenwood who is nothing but a shill for the biotech industry.

This a golden chance to get a conservative in though as the loser dem has no chance to win.

Right, and it would be much more difficult for the Democrats to defeat Fitzpatrick once he's an incumbent.
