Bush needs a book (my opinion)
self

A nice easy read that lays out his plans, vision and competence. I'd even vote for a chapter specifically aimed at democrats asking them to rise above the partisanship displayed on a national level and demonstrate that we are truly one nation, undivided.

After watching the media fry Bush all weekend, it occurs to me that he must somehow take his message directly to the people. I would envision sort of a light version of the Contract With America.

From his book, A Charge To Keep:

I was not elected to serve one party, but to serve one nation. The president of the US is the president of every single American, of every race and every background. Whether you voted for me or not, I will do my best to serve your interests, and I will work to earn your respect.
The presidency is more than an honor, it is more than an office. It is a charge to keep, and I will give it my all.

Excellent example of what I'm trying to get at.

Go around the news media and write a campaign document that millions of Americans will read. Get the message out without filter.

Steve's suggestion is a good one, but conservatives have often found themselves disappointed by Bush's reticence about telling his story, or at least about telling it in passionate (not "compassionate") and stirring terms.

In addition, what's needed is not a biography so much as an ideological case written in plain, easy English. Certainly the president speaks in plain, easy English. But he has trouble making an ideological case, mainly, I think, because he really has no taste for this.

It is our job, therefore, to make that case for him -- every chance we get.

There's a collection of his speeches sold at NationalReview.com. In a few days I'm going to put up a vanity post about what Bush needs to do win the election in my humble, 18-year-old, Fox News Channel intern opinion. My personal opinion is that, right now, he'd lose against Kerry.

I'd say these folks need all the advice they can get.

The stupidity and timidity at the highest levels of the Republican party are a never-ending source of wonder to me. I think I understand it, but that doesn't begin to justify it. You may just be one 18-year-old they can learn from.

Not that they're listening. But do share your views with us
anyway.

It's a good idea -- if the book itself is good. Bush seems afraid to take the gloves off. It's quite possible to tell the truth about the Democratic "leadership" without trashing Democratic voters. But Bush still has this fantasy, I fear, of renewing civility in Washington. (How this can be done without a complete cave-in by Bush or a radical change of heart by the Dems is beyond me.)

But I suppose even a wet noodle of a book could be of some help to W. People might actually buy it, in order to hear the other side. God knows they've heard the Demoncrats for months, often unopposed.

I saw your post the other day on the Zarqawi thread, I think. Congratulations on your internship! I hope you are enjoying every minute of it.

I've been telling people...that there is, one book that could help President Bush. But it would have to be "promoted", or talked about to get people reading or thinking. I even emailed Joe Scarborough, on MSNBC, to please have the author on his show (he may, yet..) and best of all. this enlightening book is written by a democrat.
The Pentagon's New Map, by Thomas Barnett, GP Putnam & Sons, is very good -- especially explaining why going to war in Iraq was the right thing to do! Mr. Barnett writes about the need for connectness in the world-scheme of things (my words) and explains how the despotic leaders, tyrants, dictators, take advantage of keeping their country and their citizens isolated from the rest of the world.

Amen to that. And the aggravating thing is all he has to do is call a few radio talk show hosts once every few weeks instead of agreeing to be interviewed by Tom Brokaw, Larry King, Al Jazeera, etc.
