This article is over a week old, but I hadn't seen it posted yet. Hempstead Mayor James Garner is being described as a "conservative Republican," which is good to hear, since I feared he was a liberal on social issues. Garner has a good shot to defeat liberal Democrat Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy in Long Island's 4th Congressional District, which would make him the first black Republican ever elected to Congress from New York.

If he's running against McCarthy, that's all I need to hear.

James Garner would make a great Congressman, and his record of winning elections in Hempstead gives him a base in 'Rat territory. But there is a skunk at the garden party: Carolyn McCarthy has $552,689 cash on hand, while Garner only has $31,119.
