Cherryville, NC - State Representative Patrick McHenry made it official today. McHenry filed the appropriate papers at the North Carolina Board of Elections to enter the race for Congress in North Carolina's Tenth Congressional District.

"To say that filing the appropriate candidacy papers today marks the beginning of my campaign would obviously be incorrect," McHenry stated after filing, "because my campaign has been gathering steam since I announced at the beginning of the year." In fact, several recent events show that McHenry's campaign has seized the momentum in the Tenth District Race.

Early in April, McHenry captured an overwhelming victory in the Catawba County Republican Straw Poll held at the county's annual GOP Lincoln Day Dinner, garnering more votes than all other candidates combined. Catawba is the Tenth District's most populous county and is home to all three of McHenry's opponents in the Republican Primary. This victory, followed by the McHenry campaign's continued fundraising success, has convinced many that the State Representative is the only viable conservative candidate in the race.

McHenry, however, insisted that the central factor in his campaign's growing strength is one-on-one contact with voters. "While other candidates waste millions on 30 second TV ads blasting their 'spin,' my campaign is about knocking on doors, answering questions from voters face to face, listening to their concerns and allowing them to find out where I really stand on the issues. My campaign's grassroots organization will enable us to win this election."

"I am confident of victory in the Republican Primary on July 20th - and in the November General Election," McHenry concluded.
