Dr. Coburn has excited and energized the conservative grass roots in Oklahoma. I think that because of that, he's the slight favorite in the primary and tough candidate in the general. Kirk Humphreys is a good mayor, but he's fallen victim to an anti-OK City sentiment in the rural areas. Furthermore, his focus on economic developement has made him seem lukewarm about the social issues, and other voters find him to be too urbane. Coburn is a forthright and outspoken conservative who tells it like it is, and has a following in the most 'Rat part of the state.

I first learned of Coburn on C-SPAN's Booknotes, where he discussed his book, Breach of Trust. It's an insider story detailing all that's wrong with Congress as an institution.

I liked what I saw of him. A lot. This is very nice to see.
