One would think that in a state in which Bush lost by less than 1%, a first- or second-tier candidate would come forward to challenge Ron Wyden, who is a liberal from Portland and is to the left of 95% of Oregonians. But, alas, that is not the case. Mannix better win the governorship in 2006, because that's got to have been the reason he passed on this race.

Mannix better win the governorship in 2006, because that's got to have been the reason he passed on this race. Well, he has a new job -- state GOP chair -- and Wyden's a really strong incumbent, as most incumbents would be if they tended the vineyard like he does.
