This would be a good election to give Harry Reid a stiff challenge. Jack Woodcock could provide stiff competition, but he says he'll defer to one of the statewide officeholders, three of whom are interested but still jockeying to avoid a primary: Kathy Augustine, Brian Krolicki, and Dean Heller.

Whoever runs had better get ready soon - What is Krolicki waiting for?
The NV GOP had better Hurry up!

Krolicki has an exploratory committee. Supposedly the other two are really interested too. Krolicki keeps saying it's imperative that they avoid a primary. And . . . that's about it. I'm expecting an announcement from SOMEbody this month. Kathy Augustine said she would decide after the New Year.

I agree...I wish that Rove would convince Gibbons that he should run. How is Gov. Guinn and would he be able to beat Reid? The problem with Reid is that he is Mormon and attracts a lot generally Republican voters crossing over to vote for their own kind. I wish that they would look at his voting record and realize that many of his positions (or at least his party's platforms) do not support LDS theology especially when it comes to abortion, etc.

Don't even breathe the word Guinn. After he got the state supreme court to force the legislature to increase taxes, I think Guinn is persona non grata.
I think Reid is going to get hammered over his obstruction of Bush's judicial nominees, which won't go over well with Nevada's Mormon population. (Now, if the Nevada GOP can only settle on a candidate....)

I have heard that the current governor is non too popular. Given your comments...it makes sense. I hope that NV GOP can get it together and avoid a primary that will bloody the nominee. Hopefully, we get a solid candidate. I hope that you are right regarding the Mormon voters. Often they vote blindly for the Republican, unless he/she is running against one of their own, and then they support the Mormon. Nevada has a huge LDS population and therefore, it may be enought the swing the election.
I read yesterday on FR that voter registration in NV is almost one million. That state is really growing quickly. Transplants from CA, the Pacific Northwest, and elsewhere coupled with low taxes is making this state become a real frontier.

He should. We all know Wood is tougher than a Reid :)

On the other hand, aren't they pretty close knit (Mormons). Reid is Mormon.

One thing not mentioned here is that the gap between totals on democrats and Republicans in Nevada continues to widen in FAVOR of Republicans. If I recall correctly, the last election cycle had Republicans up by about 3000 registered voters. This new total is about 9000. Thats good news for us....

I would echo your comments. I think that many Mormon voters would overlook certain voting traits and vote for "one of their own". I know some Catholic voters in my neighborhood that do that. Regardless of the candidate's votes/positions, they are supported by fellow parishioners because of their membership. I am sure this is not unique of these two religions either.

Just to let you know that over 80% of Mormons voted for Bush in 2000. You are right about Reid not holding up to his religous values and taking a stand against the Democrats. The small percentage of Democrats in our church do not care so much about the religous side of things but more for the political side and because they are Democrats that is the way they will vote but I would assume that when they die they will be judged accordingly. Ron Olson Thanks.

You are right that 80% of self-proclaimed LDS members in the USA voted for Bush (if they voted). I know several Democrats in my local ward that are actively working against Bush. Supporters of Reid (among generally Republican Mormons) were enough to push him ahead of Ensign in 2000. They generally did not vote for him because of his voting record, but because he was LDS.
