Iowa Granny, both Talbot stores in my area have not received any of their holiday items yet. One saleslady told me to call customer service and see if the dress has been sent to D.C. or Chicago, because they get their stuff before Indianapolis. That is my mission this afternoon.

Well, my eyes are 100% great except for needing a slightly stronger prescription. I got new frames which are actually NO frames and the shafts are titanium so they are really lightweight. Of course, these do not come cheap. Between the glasses and this dress and stuff, I am turning into a high-maintenance spouse for Mr. Marple! Ha!

Dog, I see that the polls are going up again. LOL! We need another flight suit moment. That will drive up the numbers and drive the Rats insane.

Great idea, to contact Chicago or DC. I hope it pans out for you. I saw the dress in the Holiday catalog. It is on the opposite page as the black lace number I'm tempted to order to have in my closet 'just in case'.

As in Just in Case they change the dress code for the Ikes' Squirrill Feed.

Or as in Just in Case I'm summoned for an Audience with the Pope (who, by the way, I would like to give apiece of my mind,, but I have such little mind left, I've decided to be selfish and keep it for myself)

I'm out of sorts today. Much to do, and not much time. Back to the Salt Mines.

I have been running around trying to find some Bon Ami, great for cleaning auto windshilds with, won't scratch the glass like all the other abrasives will. Seems like every one else has the same idea, can't find one can in the stores. The love bugs are terrible down here this time of the year.

Well, the liberal media is chiming in on the PBA debate, with their usual tactfulness and restraint:

EMOTIONS RUN HIGH WITH CONGRESS POISED TO BAN ABORTION [actual headline]

LOL! I can't wait to see Putin's press conference with Bush this weekend. I expect to see a few Media types gobsmacked. I live for those moments.

Yeah, Miss Marple! Thanks!

Maybe you guys already discussed the Tom Delay speech from earlier this week. Just in case, it's mentioned in Greg Pierce's WashTimes column today, Inside Politics:

DeLay condemns Dems
"... too many Democrats treat the war on terror like a political nuisance... They have allowed their cause to be bullied by people who believe vandalizing Starbucks represents a legitimate foreign-policy issue."
Precisely. Now wonder they hate DeLay so much. He holds a mirror to their ugly faces.

"calls on behalf of politicians are exempt from the registry."

That's too bad, as they are the worst -- just won't take no for an answer, so you have to be rude and hang-up!

When I get a call for a donation from a political type leach I just tell them I am going to send them 200.00. I son't send them anything. DEMOCRACTS I will send them 25 cents, they will spend a lot of stamp money in the future sending you more request and 'thank you for the donation' type letters.

"I just tell them I am going to send them 200.00. I son't send them anything."

Good idea, however, the one time I tried that they kept calling me and sending me junk mail wanting to know when I was going to send my donation!

Have to admit that I hate to send money to charities, political parties, etc. because they keep after you. Seems to me they spend more money soliciting donations from me than I EVER send to them!

BUT it cost them MONEY to send that mail to you. Thats the name of the game. You can always say 'no speakie english' when they call. A lot of times I say the 'man of the house ain't home, he got arrested and was taken to jail, I'm just visiting'.

Then there are the telemarketers, I keep my police whistle by the phone and when they start, I start also, blowing my whistle into the phone. They hang up fast. Now that congress has done sometbing about it I am hoping that part of our life if over. I am just waiting for them to start calling cell phone numbers.

Good Afternoon All!

Cool, Rainy day here, snow above 2500 feet dusting the mountains.

It looks like we have a Tsunami Warning; 8.0 quake off Japan, wave(s) expected in my region of coastal Alaska about 7pm local. I think I will stay away from the beach today!

Thught I would get envolved in a little serious conversation with all this afternoon. Topic, POLICE! Tdays responsibility (duties) placed on them in this hectic, dangerous times.

I joined the police service on Aug 15, 1959. I was given a 38 S&W revolver, uniforms and the likes. 38 pistol, you had more of a chance killing someone with it if you beat him to death, they were no accurate at all. I shot into a car door once trying to hit a fellow who had killed his girfriend and the bullet did went thru the outer skin of the car and did not even break the glass inside the door. Today, 9MM automatics, M16's, body armour, helmets, you name it but we in the early days had none of these. Progress is made.

Now, on your way to and from work each day I am sure you will se a motorcycle officer, a squad car of two out investigating a accident. The meassuring tapes come out, photo is called out and pictures are taken, it is all done professional like but why. In this day and time we are depending of the police officers to provide us protection from the radicals who are trying to blow us up and somehow I can't see a 72 year old lady who just bumped into another car planning to blow us up.

Then again we see the escort for a funeral, normally two motorcycle policemen, a squad car of two and it is to make the traffice proceed in a normal manner during the funeral. Why.

Here are the reasons. # 1 it is tradition, it always has been done this way so, we keep doing it. Mainly the accidents? Strictly for the insurance companies. Unless the officer sees the accident happens he/she can only submit it to a court of law, they have no idea what happened. Investigation of an accident is a very costly matter and it does tie up men who can be used looking for the radicals intending to do us death and destruction. The insurance companis do not compensate the police departments for their investigation, its all done for free for the insurance company not to mention the time spent in court by the officers over this accident.

Solution. The departments MUST start charging the insurance companies for the investigations. Believe me, they have the money to do so. Teh insurace companies could be charged enough for a department to have men and women to do nothing but investigate accidents. The name of the game today is free the officers to do progtection, not look at two cars who happened to run into each other.

Then there are the funerals. The funeral homes are the winners here as well. NOTHING is charged to them for the escort services and it is just down time for good men and women to do what they are trained to do, protect us. Private companies could be used for this escourt service with the funeral homes paying the bill.

Its also time to start putting the men and women (officers) who are assigned to admisistration back on the streets. Civilians can do what they do and the training is there just waiting to do this. But then again, its called tradition.

Oh well, this was just bugging me and I have been wanting to say this for some time now and now that I have, I feel better. I just know the departments are strapped for police offices and there are to many 'non police' functions being done that could free up a lot of officers.

All good observations GC6,
I have been through law enforcement training as it relates to my duties as a local adjunct to the State Fire Marshall. Being a long way from the city, sometimes it’s just me and another State Trooper handling “difficult” situations for an hour or more awaiting help.

What frustrates me is the duplication of effort, especially at the federal level. Did you know that the Government has over three hundred different law enforcement agencies – all the way from the FBI, DEA, etc to the GSA and Forest Service. All with their own administration, payroll, training academies -policies and procedures etc. I have a three page “to call” list if I have an incident on federal property or facilities! It seems to me to be quite a waste of taxpayer money to maintain all this infrastructure. It would make sense to me that if all that effort were consolidated into one agency, we could save a lot of taxpayer money as well as put a lot more personnel on the street.
