But as I look around at the global political picture and count the number of threats to the U.S., it comes to... let's see... zero.

Lets see....there are thousands of Al-Quida members that want us dead; North Korea is up to no good and armed with nuclear abilities; China is definitely no friend & not to be trusted; Osama & Saddam are still out there and the Taliban is trying to regroup in Afghanistan. Not to mention the enemies within this country. Alot more than ZERO. I am not "fearful" just realistic.

" Do you really, honestly think that a global utopia of non-violence and peace is possible?" Yes, I do, as do millions of others around the world.

Then, I have to say that you know next to zero about human nature.

"Sometimes 100 must be killed to save 1000. Do you not agree, given the numbers of corpses in mass graves that Saddam and sons would have killed many more given the next 30 years to do so than our bombs killed? "

Here is a great thread for our pacifist visitor:

I was under the impression that he came here to learn, but it seems to me that he is very busy just trying to justify his beliefs....which are no beliefs.

Yes, I have noticed that our friend is very choosy about what he responds to. And facts are also very rare. He BELIEVES that we can all play nice...sounds a whole lot like my faith in God, except I have the Bible and human history on my side. Nothing at all supports his position.

Yes, I've noticed that too. Not very egalitarian of him, is it?

Actually, that was an unfair post of mine, he did respond to my first post...a list of 25 questions. But, he has not responded to any of my posts since. Moral relativists are very primitive thinkers.

As a liberal, a better login name would have been "LessFreeRepublicLoginName".

Liberals aren't alone in their distaste for freedom, yet it is their quest to make everyone equal that distinguishes them as tyrants.

Were I Britany Spears and you Madonna, I'd have knocked your ass into the orchestra pit the moment you tried to french-kiss me, freeing myself from your aged-lock on pop culture and the supposed "art form" that you expected(expectorated) I should follow. No, make that 'demand" I should follow.

The real irony is that not even art will allow for the type of control that those of your ilk seem to think you possess.

You want real, lasting art, see the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Nobody trying to stick a tongue down anybody's throat there.(pay close attention to the 2nd ammendment)

I'm a fan of Jim Kalb's conservatism FAQ. It does favor Traditionalist Conservatism.

In regard to "Did your father use corporal punishment?", the answer is no, but my school-teacher mother did.

In regard to "once per week, once per month, etc.", the answer is, for smart kids, once is enough...

"He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly." Proverbs 13:24

I guess that answers #1 for you, too.

I hope Lazamatas hasn't gotten banned over this thread. That jerk wasn't worth it. Do you suppose they got in a fight?

The questions are written by a liberal and are mostly of the "have you stopped beating you wife?" variety. I am a strong conservative - fiscal, political and social - and there is no way I can answer most if not all of those questions. Not because I don't want to but I would lie if I answered either Y or N.

The questions sound as though they come from a psychology professor who is trying to prove that conservatives have weird upbringings or twisted subconscious needs that "conservatism" fills. If you want to know what conservatives think, read FR. If you want to know why, engage in discourse.

1. Do you believe in God?

Yes

2. Do you believe Reason has limitations? If so, what are those limitations?

No.

3. Did your father use corporal punishment to enforce discipline? (Were you whipped, beaten, or spanked when you misbehaved?) If so, how frequently? (Once per year? Once per day?)

Rarely.

4. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "To be morally strong, you must be self-disciplined and self-denying. Otherwise, you are self-indulgent and such moral flabbiness ultimately helps the forces of evil."

Agree. 5. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "Punishment is nurturing in that it teaches discipline, self-reliance and respect for authority."

Disagree 6. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "Your poverty or your drug habit or your illegitimate children can be explained only as moral weakness and any discussion of social causes cannot be relevant."

Referring to drugs and illegitimate children. People make choices in life. There are factors that sometime cooralate, but the choice lies with the individual. As for poverty, there could be several factors there. Some choice, some situational.

7. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "The highest moral good is nurturance, including empathy, fairness and protection, but not painful punishment."

Disagree. The highest moral good is to be true to myslelf.

8. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "Obedience comes out of love and respect for the parent, not out of fear, and strength is in the service of nurturance."

Depends on the parents. In GOOD parents, agree.

9. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "'Conservative tolerance for inequality' [as described by liberals], should, in fact, read intolerance for forced equality, and acceptance of the natural order of things in which inequality is generally the rule. "

Agree. Inequality is a good thing. Competition makes this country great.

10. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: "The modern North American liberal is 'a keen advocate of change mainly to fulfill his/her ego needs -- needs for power, influence, self-advertisement, self-promotion and excitement.'"

Agree. Particulary on POWER.

11. Is it possible for a Liberal to be a good person? Is it possible for a Conservative to be a bad person?

Yes if the liberal is not in power. Some conservatives are bad people too.

12. Is morality (by which I mean right and wrong) absolute, as described in the bible, or is it relative?

Morality is absolute, but not everything wrong should be illegal.

13. On a scale of 1 to 10, are you happy in life (generally speaking)?

7.

14. Which statement do you agree with more: "people are generally good and trustworthy" or "people are generally bad and will try to harm you"?

Depends on the people.

15. Is corporal punishment (discipline through whipping, beating, or spanking) an acceptable practice?

Some forms are acceptable, beating and whipping(actual whipping) are not.

16. On a scale of 1 to 10, do have anxiety (or fear) in your life (on a day-to-day basis)?

Varies. 3 most days. 8 near last minute deadlines. 10 around election day.

It's very funny to see you write this, because I think Liberals would say the same thing about conservatives (replacing "socialism" with "facism").

I consider fascism leftist. It's no different that communism, a divine right monarchy, a theocracy, or any other sort of police state.

It's all Statism. Govt controls everything by force.

If it is a choice of war or being a slave, then I'll take war every time.
