Sometimes, in dreams, I'll hear a song that does not exist in the waking world.
And when I wake up, I try to scramble and write it down before it's gone.
I usually fail, but sometimes I get a good enough section of it down.

Except for one that was rather pretty, and haunting.
And I know the tune still, but I cannot remember what the words were.
But that's how dreams are, fleeting and wraithlike.

A Letter From A Missing Veteran



America, do you remember me?
It’s been so long since I’ve been free.
Do you recall the years long ago,
When we were sent to a dreadful war?

Yes, we did not run, nor did we hide,
We fought for our country with all our might.
The tribulations and pains were met,
By American Veterans, please don’t forget.

But then our government left us behind,
So many of us they could not find.
Or is it just they don’t want to know,
What happened to us so long ago?

America, it’s now up to you,
Stand up and say, to our memory be true.
There must be a way to set us free,
And our family once more for us to see.

America, do you remember me?
It’s been so long, since I’ve been free.

THE LOST VIETNAM VET



They fought for our country,
Gave all they could give,
Now we sit and wonder,
How many still live.

Missing in action,
Gone without a trace,
Families left grieving,
Time is a race.

Abandoned by their country,
Forgotten in unknown land,
Left with no hope,
To die at anothers hand.

Never give up,
We'll never forget,
They must be brought home,
The lost Vietnam Vet.

Unforeseen Ending

You know it'll never be the same.
Never be the way it was before-
I never had to tell you that.
I liked the way you let your hair fall down.
Now there's a need to beg forgiveness.
But certain things are better left undone.
And all I see, all I'll be-
why you wanted me?
Impossible? Impossible.
Have I waited here too long?
Must've meant to tell you.
Tell you that I liked the way you moved.
Now I sit here reflecting.
But I hate to sit here without.
So i try to buy absolution.
But your blood is still on my hands.
And all I see, All i'll ever be-
why you wanted me?
Impossible? Impossible.
Were you right here all along?

Maybe I'm an angel with clipped wings.
Maybe I'm just another of the broken things
drifting through mem'ries faded scenes.
Maybe I'm the dream instead of the dreamer
a cutoff scream in a darkened theater.
Maybe I'm a knight bereft of his armor
an Arlington ghost in search of more honor.
Maybe I'm a bird never meant to fly
a carousel pony going for the last ride.
Maybe I'm a thought never thought again
a distant last parting of long lost friends.
Maybe.
Maybe I'm an angel with clipped wings.
Maybe I'm another of those broken things.

You liked 'maybe'?
It was written with the same thoughts in mind as the other one.
(Unforeseen Ending)

More or less the point of view of someone who has to say 'goodbye' repeatedly and be left behind, in many ways.
'Maybe' is somewhat the same point of view, but from a different outlook.
(As with sis, most of what I write comes from sorrow and regretful loss. The short stories are more or less the polar opposite of my poetry in as much as they're the brute force against what the poetry represents.)
