My choice would be Rice. I like her and I think she would win some votes from the woman and african american communities that the dems rely on so much. Hopefully if Rice were nominated, the dems would panic and nominate Sharpton as their candidate to try to counter balance, but that is very wishful thinking. Plus she went to Stanford (where I hope to go in a year) :).

Cheney is the candidate. Period. The campaign is already started, the signs and stickers have been printed.

I believe the vice presidential candidate will and should be Dick Cheney.

I think he will be because it is in the nature of the Bush family to reward loyalty with with loyalty. It is their highest prized virtue.

I think he should be the candidate because Bush is not immortal and there is no one better to take the oath if it must be taken.

I don't know if this has been discussed or not because I just signed up two weeks ago

It hasn't been discussed that often.

Only once a week or so, since the inauguration, at the most...

It's doubtful that anybody in recent decades has been a more valuable VP than Cheney, whose opinion seems to carry more weight than the typical VP. That will hold true for the next term as well as this one. The only reason to make Rice the candidate would be to promote her for the party's nomination in '08, but considering her prominence these days it may not be necessary to do that just to promote her candidacy.
As for Dem panic, they aren't going to panic over an election they know they're probably going to lose anyway. They'll put up a pair of sacrificial candidates, a la Mondale/Ferraro.

First, the only reason that people question Richard Cheney as a viable Presidential candidate is because of his ticker, not his technical qualifications. Second, as much as I admire the intelligence and integrity of Condoleeza Rice, the plain truth is that the United States is not culturally ready for a black President, male or otherwise. It's an interesting notion, but it simply won't happen any time soon. That is just a fact of the culture and demographics of the US at the present time. If qualifications were considered only, Richard Cheney would be the man for the job, without question. I'd hire him in a second to manage money for me if I could afford his services.

If he were to change VP candidates I think he would lose at this point.

but how do you people feel?

I feel fine . . . thanks for asking.

Who do you think should be the candidate and why?

Dick Chaney, because he's already the candidate.

I don't know if this has been discussed or not because I just signed up two weeks ago.

Adnauseam

If it has, just ignore this.

Too late

I know that Cheney has said that he will be the candidate again in 2004, but how do you people feel?

This is a conservative site.

Conservatives "think".

Liberals "feel"

FR is not Oprah.

If we'd just run GW Bush and Hillary, we'd get 80% of the popular vote and then she can be consigned to Minister of Bar Codes or something. /silly, horrible thought

Ignore what?

BTW, when you go to Stamford, see if you can get someone to explain the difference in grammer over plural nouns. Why would we want woman vote?

...explain the difference in grammer over plural nouns.

Grammer is my fathers mother. I don't know what my Grammer has to do with plural nouns.

Welcome to FR. In general, we post articles and then discuss them. Occasionally someone will get away with asking about restaurants in Peoria or some other stray thought, but it is usually considered bad form. And can elicit a flogging.

Why would you want to go to Stamford? To see the World Wrestling Federation headquarters?

I think Cheney ought to take himself off the ticket. Republicans will be missing a great opportunity if neither Rice nor Powell are in the VP slot.
