I'm not "demanding change" anymore than the "barf valert" people are asking permission.

Vomit alert = VA

Why do you keep saying vomit alert?

Why do you keep saying vomit alert?

Why do you keep saying vomit alert?

Why do you keep saying vomit alert?

You have been informed by many of us that it is a barf alert. Stir it up. Stir it up. Stir it up.

Does that help?

Humans do it, but must civilized discussion refer to it constantly? I think not.

So we're uncivilized?

I think not.

The fact is...it's just as easily ignored.

Some, however, can’t resist an insatiable desire to act as Hall Monitor.

That ain’t no thang either, as that’s easily ignored.

Well, that was rude.

I posted my opinion, and just because you disagree you post the most graphic picture that I specifically stated I don't care for.

I have never said anything before, but because a thread was started to discuss it I spoke my piece. It's too bad that because I said I don't care to see pictures of people throwing up you decide to throw one in my face.

I hope you feel all warm and fuzzy over it.

Look, the topic was brought up and opinions sought and I posted mine.

I've read many threads with the term and pictures in it and never said a word about it until someone asked for people to comment on the matter.

There are so many interesting ideas, phrases, photos and whatever that can be posted here. Why waste time throwing 'spitballs'?

Barf alerts got old. If I'm posting an alert, I at least try to be creative.

Speaking of alerts, how big can a signature image be without conveying some kind of covert alert to all who happen upon it ("ego alert," "extrovert alert," etc.)?

Well, for me it's mainly a convenient way of scrolling threads and recognizing posters without having to read each screen name. I'd like to see more of them.

The ego and extrovert things probably apply to an extent, but aren't we Freepers just a bunch of sharing chatterboxes, after all?

I said I don't care to see pictures of people throwing up you decide to throw one in my face.

It's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH. You have a right to express your displeasure at seeing gross pictures but he has a right to show it. It's part of our rights.

My dear zip, did you really think I didn't understand that?

I then pointed out his showing it was rude. That's MY freedom of speech.

Get it?

The reason I posted the picture was "to illustrate absurdity by being absurd".

I think it's absurd to complain about someone using the word "barf". Yes, a full color picture IS repulsive, as it should be.

But please, a little humor using the word "barf" as in a "barf alert" is not out of place. Is the picture out of place and uncalled for? Yes. Which is why I posted it.

It is a contrast to the petty complaint about a harmless use of the word "barf".

I have no problem with that. I am for the barf alert and have questioned people for not using it on some very leftist articles.

The problem I have with this whole thread is the use of partial truths. The word vomit was used by several posters constantly but I'm on FR 4 or 5 days a week, 2 or 3 hours a day and RARELY saw vomit alerts, I saw barf alerts and that alerted me to leftist articles (which I read so I know my enemies). The vomit spin is what set me off not the idea of alerts.

Of course I get it. If you reread my post I said exactly the same thing. We all have the right to express ourselves and also have the right to ignore others.

The usual effect these alerts have on me is to indicate that the poster rather than the content is enough to engender a good "upchuck"

Yep, and most of the replies will be completely useless too. Barf alerts are for dummies.
