Pick an old friend you haven't seen in a long time who lives in a cheaper area, fly or drive out and visit, and find a new puppy while you're there. It'll be cheaper than the money you'd have spent where you are AND you'll get to see an old friend.
The older I get the more I realize it is the time we spend with loved ones that really matters most, so if you're going to have to spend this money anyway, find a way to do two things at once.
