I wish I could understand WHY any station would turn it off. It defies any logic I can come up with. Does it cost them money to run it?? I don't get it.

Emails sent on your behalf and on behalf of all people who rely on cc.

God Bless,.. Vets

Ac-centuate the Positive, e-liminate the Negative, latch on to the Affirmative - but what do we do about Mr. In-between? Just when you think it's safe to like him...

Jerry Rivers. He has some ability - yet he's got so much poison in him. It comes out from time to time.

Vets, Jerry Rivers is Geraldo Rivera's nickname. He's a reporter on Fox News.

Well, Vol, it's after 8 p.m. on the west coast. Boo, hiss! Fox News has stopped their captioning again tonight, so after having had Fox on all day, I have switched over to MSNBC, which is continuing with their captioning.

Vets, I'm not sure how the cost of captioning is handled by Fox News. They do not seem to answer their e-mails about it. I noticed during their recent 24/7 war coverage that the captioning introduction said that the Dept. of Education was sponsoring the captioning. So I would assume that sometimes the captioning is paid for by such donations and sometimes the network involved must pay the costs themselves, mainly for the services of the person typing the words during live programs using real time captioning, much like a court reporter/stenographer.

I haven't been able to find out what the current costs for an hour of such programming would be, but did see that in 2000, Home Shopping Network claimed that it would cost them $149/hour for their live captioning. They were trying to get out of doing captions and were told by the FCC they would have to do them. Anyway, approximately $150/hour ... seems like that would be peanuts for FOX/Roger Ailes and imagine the increased viewership and good will they'd receive by continuing their captioning.

It's not just hearing impaired or deaf viewers who enjoy captioning. It's great for helping kids to improve their reading skills and for helping anyone to improve language and vocabulary skills.

Wow! You west coasters have got it worse! I had no idea! That's really shameful.

I'm being told that maybe writing letter and sending it snail mail might actually get their attention. Perhaps we should start doing that. Wonder if the homeschoolers could perhaps start a project with their kids and get them to send out letters to Fox News? It was suggested by EdReform.

I'm going out of town on April 5 and will be around a lot of deafies. I wonder if a petition would help? But when you do a petition, how many signatures should I try to get. I'm thinking I would be able to get about fifty of them next wknd. Or I'm even willing to type out a letter, make copies, and make up a bunch of SASE's (self addressed stamped envelope) and hand them out to the deafies. Have them mail it in with their return addresses on it. Would that help?
