I am looking at 3 or 4 different approximations to calculating the cutoff frequency in microwave waveguides & then comparing those calculations to simulated data.....Dig out ol' Jackson, dude...
I kinda liked the waveguide stuff. Never had occasion to use it but it was kinda, uh, fun messing around with all the T and R equations...

Here's another one.... The nescient Mr. Wellfare (I mean Wellstone) appears to be trailing Norm. One of the things I hated about moving away from Minnesota (& it wasn't the taxes) was having the opportunity to vote this little amoebae out of office.
Take him Norm!

Ok kiddies, you are on your own again. I am going back to the salt mines.
Later!

Well, it's much easier now days to manipulate the equations with the aid of Mathcad (what I would have given back in my college days for a PC, simulation software, and Mathcad).

Bring Help. And Pack a lunch ; )In your dreams that I would need help but lunch might not be a bad idea.
;-)
To: SeaDragon
Well, I suppose if you were bereft of help I could go easy on you.

True, very true.
If you can tolerate the "funky" way (in a Zen Macintosh/Apple/unix-ish almost pattern) that MathCAD forces you to try to edit and write equations.
Always felt that program was set up to "write" pretty equations and display them for papers, rather than help you make massive numbers of accurate calculations.
So I more often turn to Excel or JMP-In by SAS for quick equation estimating.
Still, since most of my stuff is CAD/layout/error-checking and fixes , I don't need as much "pure mathematics" as number-crunching.

Thought you couldn't go eat tigers for lunch because you were tied up in chains at your desk.

Oh, please, don't do me any favors............
;~)

I don't normally need pure number crunching either, so normally Mathcad is fine. But I know exactly what you mean as far as the funky way in which they force you to input the equations. I am constantly having to use dummy placeholders, cut & paste pieces of equations, use a lot of parenthesis, etc, just to input my equations. It does look nice, though if you can minimize your equations, add graphs, drawings, & text (but then who has time?).... maybe I will & then make sure the boss gets a copy.
I've never used JMP-In before. I've used Matlab a couple of times years ago & use Excel regularly for sorting data & doing simple calculations.

Got Jmp-in for use in my statistics classes for a QA Masters.
It's got useable, but not exotic, graph and equation-creator/display functions: given a group of several relationships (sets of points), and one or more relationships you need an equation for it will do a wonderful job of showing the points, "outliars", trial fits, fit parameters, and various formats of potential solutions.
Best for QA and statistics analysis of the data. Certainly not as exotic as many statistics-pure programs, but its also much cheaper at well under 100.00 (maybe 78.00 Don't remember.)

The Dems, intent upon blocking our President in any endeavor, including national security, remain
nescient of American support of the Bush Doctrine. This ignorance of the will of the American people as regards Saddam and the War on Terror will cost them dearly in November.
